About Deerskin Care.
The most important thing for the care of deerskin is emulsified lanolin. We
offer Deerskin First Aid as the best source. Give your deerskin item an
application of Deerskin First Aid before you begin to use it. Don't dismay
if this application darkens the deerskin; some of the lanolin will dissipate
from the surface, and it will return to its original color. But the core of
the hide will be supple and nourished. When the surface is dry, there will
be left only an invisible coating to protect the deerskin. Additional
applications will be necessary at the first signs of dryness or scuffing.
Should something spill on it, it can often be gently wiped off with a damp
cloth. If this doesn't remove the stain, then simply wash it by hand, in
your sink, in a solution of lukewarm water and Murphy's Oil Soap. Rinse
well, and allow to air dry. Reapply Deerskin First Aid after washing, and
whenever it looks or feels dry, and your deerskin item will be beautiful for
many years to come.
